Translation/Localization
Localization
Enhancing productivity
through teamwork
The services we provide comprise not only translation, but also localization. Localization is the process of adapting a product (or service or content) to meet the cultural, linguistic, and other specific needs of a particular geographical region or audience. It goes beyond pure translation and involves a comprehensive understanding of the local culture, customs, and preferences.
We handle projects ranging from technical documentation such as manuals, help guides, and user interfaces to marketing materials including websites, catalogs, and datasheets.
We receive regular orders from globally leading IT firms, media organizations, precision equipment manufacturers, and many others. We also have numerous partnerships with multi-language vendors (translation and localization companies based overseas that handle multiple language pairs).
Some of the main features of Cultemo that appeal to our customers and partners include:
Team structure
Our project managers, quality assurance specialists and linguists collaborate seamlessly, creating a fusion of knowledge and expertise at a level that makes it possible to achieve both quality and efficiency at the same time. Each team member is also trained in additional areas beyond their main remit, enabling knowledge and expertise to be shared and retained throughout ongoing projects. In an industry often marred by amateurish project management, Cultemo stands out as a beacon of professionalism and excellence.
Use of localization technology
We are skilled in the use of more than 20 different types of translation memory (CAT) tools, including the more popular solutions such as Trados and Phrase (formerly Memsource). We can work with a vast range of other software and file types including Microsoft Office, InDesign, FrameMaker, Illustrator, Photoshop, as well as XML, Xliff, DITA, and web-based tools. We are also engaged in audio-visual translation and subtitling.
We cater to a wide range of specialist fields, with extensive experience in everything from software & IT, telecommunications, and web information services to precision instruments, life sciences, machinery, and construction, just to name a few.
Machine Translation & Post- Editing (AI Translation)
Leave AI translation risk management to us
For the past 18 years, Cultemo has engaged in professional machine translation (MT) and post editing (PE) work in response to our clients' requests. We are one of the few translation companies in Japan that has genuinely embraced MT, a technology often viewed with skepticism in this country. A number of distinctive features set us apart from others in this area:
• We have accumulated vast knowledge and established highly effective workflow processes as a result of our experience and proven track record with this technology over many years.
• We currently have a number of translators capable of handling over 8 million words per year through post editing.
• We have faced head-on the challenge of achieving quality levels equivalent to that of human translation via these services, and our results speak for themselves.
At Cultemo, we view PE as a form of risk management. We take enormous care to explain the advantages and risks of MT to interested clients before implementing it.
We have extensive experience in implementing MT for both business translation and general localization. We have recently increased the provision of services such as “Light Post Editing,” which limits the scope of the editing for lower-risk projects where this may be appropriate, in addition to introducing MT for the Japanese to English direction (Note: Cultemo will never employ machine translation and post editing without receiving a request to do so from the client).

Transcreation
(Translation with High Readability)
When our clients approach us with projects or texts where it may be difficult to convey their full intended message via translation alone, we often propose “Transcreation” as a solution. At Cultemo, we have spent many years analyzing translation quality elements from a logical perspective. In translation, accuracy of information and expression is usually given priority, and it is generally not acceptable to deviate from the original text or omit any information at all. However, to produce text in the target language that reads 100% naturally (as if written by a native speaker of that target language in the first place), it can sometimes be necessary to modify expressions in accordance with the surrounding context, as well as the rules of the target language and culture. At Cultemo, we define this as “high readability translation,” otherwise known as transcreation.
In the field of marketing and in consumer-focused localization, it can sometimes even be necessary to recreate content with a greater focus on the user.
AsTrans
(For Small Volume, Short Deadline Projects)
AsTrans is an agile project management method developed by Cultemo in 2019, designed to handle small-volume projects with short deadlines and a large number of tasks. By forming a team of project staff who understand the aptitude, capacity, and schedules of all of our linguists, we have been able to significantly enhance our response times.
The AsTrans method is highly acclaimed by our clients, particularly by international IT firms and online digital media companies. The ideal conditions for implementing the AsTrans service are as follows:
• High frequency of projects.
• Access provided to the client’s content management system (CMS) or similar tools.
• Clear and established project workflows on the client side.
